Designed in collaboration with Alison Brooks Architects, this ambitious project aims to create world-class visitor facilities and open spaces for both residents and visitors, preserve important heritage buildings and address the town’s housing needs. Located at the heart of the Town of Banff – gateway to the Canadian Rocky Mountains UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s first national park. The Visitor Centre is conceived as a sculptural landmark shaped by Banff’s mountains, forests and sky. The net-zero project is designed with natural, regional materials such as stone and mass-timber ensuring longevity with minimal environmental impact. The historic Information Building is carefully renewed and woven into the new Visitor Centre through a light, transparent link that allows old and new to stand in clear conversation. New modular timber housing blocks are integrated with a natural material palette and comfortable living spaces. Landscape and architecture work together to support biodiversity, natural water management, and year-round comfort.
